Look What I Did

I decided to paint the kids bathroom this weekend. It's so plain and boring and now that they don't share the bathroom with guests, I might as well make it their own.

I began by removing the old nasty towel racks. One of the came down nice and easy. The other?

Well, see for yourself.

"Oh fiddlestix!" I exclaimed. And then I shrugged my shoulders and continued whistling Zippiddy Doo Da.

Are you kidding me? I cussed very loudly and threw the towel rack across the room.

As you might imagine, this put a damper on finishing up what should have been a 2 hour project.

And no, I will not be giving a tutorial for patching holes in walls.

SSC Sunday: Lemon Meringue

SSC = Strawberry Shortcake

My mom has been slowly pulling all my old SSC's from storage and I'm really diggin' it. Brings back a crapload of memories. I've decided to document all my goods here each Sunday. Since I don't have every single piece and part to each doll, I've scoured the Internet for accurate photos. I've documented resources as best as possible. Call me out if not.

Lemon Meringue

Here she stands in all her glory with Frappe Frog. Her golden hair curled to perfection. Such a gem.

Wow Jenn, you took great care of this one! Aside from the missing flower on her hat, she looks spectacular!

Thanks! I actually attempted giving her highlights when I was young.

She also had hand drawn earings. But my mom was able to wash those off. You should have seen the anger in her eyes when she saw this poor babe. Come to think of it, I'm suprised I'm still here to share this story...

Blog Slug

I know you are on pins and needles awaiting the next fabulous post I make on my blog.

Truth be known, I don't have one.

I'm a slug.

But I'm working on it. I'm aiming to get some projects done this weekend.

If you're lucky, I'll share.

SSC Sunday: Huckleberry Pie

SSC = Strawberry Shortcake

Huckleberry Pie

Pretty sure this was the only boy in the bunch. Aside from The Peculiar Purple Pie Man. Not sure why the young boy would want to hang out with a bunch of chicks. Unless he was a bit...fruity?

Here's how he should look with his dog, Pupcake.

Here's mine. I don't remember if he had socks or not.

And here's something fun...that's me when I was 3 and a half at Halloween! 1982 baby!

Wristlet for a Toddler

How young is too young for a wristlet?

My niece's Birthday is coming up in July. I know, I'm WAY ahead of the game. I'm just as shocked as you.

So, I whipped up this cute little wristlet. "A" is the initial of her first name.

I tackled the zipper successfully for the 2nd time.

Me - 2, Zipper - 0

I'm so awesome that I even added a pocket.

PS - she'll be 2.

Hair Bow Display

I've been trying to re-use everything from Sophie's baby room for her transition to big girl room.

So what do you do with a blank wall and the spring attachment for a crib?

You hang it on the empty wall to store and display all of your daughter's pretty bows!

SSC Sunday: Apple Dumplin

SSC = Strawberry Shortcake

Apple Dumplin and Tea Time Turtle

One of the "midget" dolls. I thought all the SSC's were kids. But I guess Apple Dumplin was more like a toddler.

Unfortunately, this is all I have left of the little guy...girl? I don't even have the turtle.

Poor guy's (girl's) hat is all stretched out. He(she) can sit in it.

My Savage Son

Since many of my sewing projects are for my little one, Sophie, her pic makes it to my blog quite often.

However, I don't usually make clothes for my son. He doesn't need any. He's my savage son.*

*He's not really my savage son. I just can't sew bigger people stuff yet. So I buy him things like candy and Zanybandz.

SSC Sunday: Rasberry Tart

SSC = Strawberry Shortcake

My mom has been slowly pulling all my old SSC's from storage and I'm really diggin' it. Brings back a crapload of memories. I've decided to document all my goods here each Sunday. Rasberry Tart

Well, I thought I had the 2nd issue doll but can't locate the monkey. However, I don't recall ever having the monkey. So maybe Ms Tart is a first issue?

What she should look like:

Well, at first glance, mine seems pretty well intact.

However, the poor girl had a run-in with a blue marker...may have been green.

Thank goodness they had hats.

Ms Tart was the only chick with "pants" - what a rebel.

Eco Travel Lid

Ever see something and wonder, "Why didn't I think of that???"

That's exactly what I thought when those Saran Quick Covers came out. You know what I'm talking about? The little shower caps for your bowls.

Well, I nearly kicked myself when I found Allyson Hill's blog and her tutorial on how to make your own eco travel lid.

DAG GUM - Why didn't I think of that?

Well, it's not my idea but I sure can whip one up! And I love that you can make them for the exact size of your bowls! No droopy wrap getting in your food.

And it's pretty on top.

Close up of the lining.

I've never claimed to sew the straightest lines.

Dude, they're washable.
Go.
Make One.
Now.

Holy Jalapeno!

I'm in awe. I can't believe I grew something edible! And it's still growing more peppers! I can't wait to pick these babies, stuff em with cream cheese, wrap in bacon and slap them on the grill...

Placemats - Take Two

The Clorox Bleach Pen was a bust.

Take Two: I mixed bleach with baking soda until it was a glue-like consistency. And used a very tiny paint brush.

A quick dunk in cold water, a little drying time and presto! It worked!

Bleach bleeds. But the kids dig 'em.
