Two Hats

My first hat making attempt appears to be a success - at least in Sophie's eyes.

It's two hats in one!

1.

2.

I need to adjust my pattern a smidge. It's a tad snug. But this was surprisingly simple. Cutting all 12 pieces of fabric took the longest.

SSC Sunday: Sour Grapes

SSC = Strawberry Shortcake

My mom has been slowly pulling all my old SSC's from storage and I'm really diggin' it. Brings back a crapload of memories. I've decided to document all my goods here each Sunday. Since I don't have every single piece and part to each doll, I've scoured the Internet for accurate photos. I've documented resources as best as possible. Call me out if not.

Sour Grapes and Dregs the Snake

Oh, she's so evil! No need for a pic of what she should look like. Mine is in darn near perfect condition. Even her hair. I don't ever remember playing with her.

Look at that chin! Her eyebrows remind me of my Grandma's. She always penciled them on.

Advertisements

I've been doing some research for work and I recently came across this plain, yet addicting website: http://www.vintageadbrowser.com/

Advertisements from 1800's all the way to present. I got stuck here for hours. Here is a sampling of what you can find.

Hey Mom, Grab a beer while you're at it. Love the 50's.

Yup, my kids have one.

Pack n Play?

Nothin's better than Whiskey...come on!

Um...really?

I've seen Santa drinking Coca-Cola, but smoking?

Not sure that I can argue with this.

I'll take two.

Women and shotguns. If that doesn't sell beer, I don't know what will?

Butter Cookie and Jelly Bear

Another one of the toddlers or midgets. So cute.

Quick! Someone get this kid some clothes!

Strawberry Shortcake Garden Gazebo

My Garden Gazebo has seen better days. It's a bit janky - warped in the hot attic.

Close up of janky-ness

I'm also missing 2 pieces to the grill.

Hey, what's for dinner anyway?

Strawberries on the grill, of course.

Not the highest quality image but probably one of the biggest smiles you've seen. That's me. Opening my Gazebo on Christmas morning in 1982.

Summer Jammies

Children grow. And they grow quickly.

I couldn't stomach just tossing winter jammies since the pants and sleeves would be too short in 3 months.

Ta Da! A few snips and stiches and you have warm weather sleepwear.

I used the extra pant fabric to make the sleeve cuffs.

I have 3 more pairs to tackle before the weekend.

Am I the only mom out there too cheap to purchase new PJ's with the change of seasons?

Another One Bites the Dust

Lately, my projects have been experiencing issues.

Exhibit A: Cool potting container with no hole. Would like to use as decorative "bowl" for 4th of July

Opted to use chalkboard paint so that I could have a cute little label to identify the contents.

Son of a...

I even took the time to make a cute little cover.

I guess I'll scrape the rest of the paint off and try again. This time, I'll sand and prime it first.

Look What I Un-Did

After creating the hole about the size of my fist in the kid's bathroom wall, I headed to Lowe's to figure out how the heck to patch it.

They have these cute little wall patch things that are made out of metal and this thin rope-like material in a grid pattern. Anyway, you stick it over the hole and slap some joint compound on it. Let it dry and sand it. (very messy by the way)

Here is the hole:

And here it is after I patched and sanded. You'll notice I went ahead and painted. Lucky for you, you are receiving a sneak peak at my color choice.

I painted over this and you can barely see the wound. I still may find some art to hang over this. Otherwise, I'll always notice it.
